Green Computing 101

What is green computing you ask?
In the article Harnessing Green IT: Principles and Practices, San Murugesan defines the field of green computing as the study and practice of designing, manufacturing, using and disposing of computers, servers, and associated subsystems ( such as monitors, printers, storage devices and networking and communications systems) efficiently and effectively with minimal or no impact on the environment.

The goals of green computing are as follows:
- Reduce the use of hazardous materials
- Maximize energy during the products lifetime
-Promote the recyclability and biodegradability of old products and factory waste

The U.S. has begun to set in motion things that are and will continue to help with green computing. They have set in to motion the Energy Star program. This program helps to use less energy and have less waste from our electronics.

There are currently 26 U.S. states that have established state wide recycling programs for unused and 0ld computers.

As the green computing movement becomes more popular businesses are coming to realize that going green can help their business, as well as the environment.

There numerous websites on the web to help you learn more about green computing and what you can do to help. I used Wikipedia to help with this blog.
Until next time think green and recycle.
